2021-22 School Year: What were the backgrounds of Lawrence County School District students?

White students made up 53.6% of the 1,770 students enrolled in Lawrence County School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 5.9% decrease from the previous school year.

Lawrence County High School had the highest enrollment in the district with 546 students.

A snapshot of Lawrence County School District schools showed 53.6% of students were white, 41.5% were Black, 1.5% were multiracial, and 0.8% Hispanic.

Lawrence County School District roughly covers five schools within Lawrence County and has a main office in Monticello.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
