Enrollment by Ethnicity: Black was most represented background in Jefferson County School District schools in 2021-22 school year

Black students made up 57.1% of the 1,037 students enrolled in Jefferson County School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 44.8% decrease from the previous school year.

Jefferson County Elementary School had the highest enrollment in the district with 421 students.

A snapshot of Jefferson County School District schools showed 57.1% of students were Black and 42.9% were multiracial.

Jefferson County School District roughly covers four schools within Jefferson County and has a main office in Fayette.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
