2021-22 School Year: What were the backgrounds of Copiah County School District students?

Black students made up 54.4% of the 2,298 students enrolled in Copiah County School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 2.8% decrease from the previous school year.

Wesson Attendance Center had the highest enrollment in the district with 902 students.

A snapshot of Copiah County School District schools showed 54.4% of students were Black, 36.6% were white, and 7.1% Hispanic.

Copiah County School District roughly covers four schools within Copiah County and has a main office in Crystal Springs.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
