Enrollment by Ethnicity: Black was most represented background in Walthall County School District schools in 2021-22 school year

Black students made up 62% of the 1,689 students enrolled in Walthall County School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 0.2% increase over the previous school year.

Tylertown High School had the highest enrollment in the district with 517 students.

A snapshot of Walthall County School District schools showed 62% of students were Black, 32.7% were white, 2.2% were multiracial, and 0.8% Hispanic.

Walthall County School District roughly covers five schools within Walthall County and has a main office in Tylertown.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
