Black had the largest percent of student body in Brookhaven School District schools in 2021-22 school year

Black students made up 64% of the 2,657 students enrolled in Brookhaven School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 1.3% increase over the previous school year.

Brookhaven High School had the highest enrollment in the district with 787 students.

A snapshot of Brookhaven School District schools showed 64% of students were Black, 30.6% were white, and 3.7% multiracial.

Brookhaven School District roughly covers five schools within Lincoln County and has a main office in Brookhaven.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
