What background was most represented in Walthall County schools in 2020-2021 school year?

Of the 1,677 students enrolled in Walthall County schools in 2020-2021, 62.4% were Black or African American, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Walthall County students.

This is a 1.6% increase over the previous school year.

Tylertown High School had the highest enrollment of Black or African American students in the 2020-2021 school year.

A snapshot of Walthall County schools showed 62.4% students were Black or African American, 32.1% were White, 1.7% were Two or More Races and 0.8% were Hispanic or Latino.

There are five schools in Walthall County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
