What background was most represented in Jefferson County schools in 2019-2020 school year?

Of the 620 students enrolled in Jefferson County schools in 2019-2020, 98.1% were Black or African American, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Jefferson County students.

This is an increase over the previous school year.

Jefferson County Elementary School had the highest enrollment of Black or African American students in the 2019-2020 school year.

A snapshot of Jefferson County schools showed 98.1% students were Black or African American.

There are two schools in Jefferson County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
