Black or African American had the largest percent of student body in Walthall County schools in 2019-2020 school year

Of the 1,812 students enrolled in Walthall County schools in 2019-2020, 60.8% were Black or African American, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Walthall County students.

This is a 0.9% decrease from the previous school year.

Tylertown High School had the highest enrollment of Black or African American students in the 2019-2020 school year.

A snapshot of Walthall County schools showed 60.8% students were Black or African American, 33.8% were White and 2.3% were Two or More Races.

There are five schools in Walthall County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
