Braves Break Two School Records at Jaguar Invitational

Three school records were broken, and a season-best was reached as the Alcorn State men's and women's track and field team competed at the Jaguar Invitational hosted by South Alabama at the Birmingham Crossplex Arena.

Stellah Kiptui led the way, finishing second in the women's mile run. Kiptui broke the Alcorn school record with a time of 5:04.32. She displaced her old record of 5:12, which she set in 2022. The Karbarnet, Kenya senior currently leads the Southwestern Athletic Conference in the event.

The second broken school record of the event was recorded in a field event, when Kiion Smith threw for 55'1" (16.79m) in the men's weight throw. He placed seventh in the event, beating out previous record holder Jordan Boyd 43'6.5" (13.30m) who set the record in 2014.

The men's 4x400 m relay, consisting of Arrington Robinson, Marciano Taylor, Charles Nnantal, Jr., and Terell White, placed seventh, completing the run in 3:20.65. White also finished eighth in the 400m run with a season-best of 49.62.

This was the last meet for the Braves before the SWAC Championship Meet on February 15-17. Alcorn will return to the Birmingham Crossplex Arena to take on its 11 conference rivals for the title.
