Men’s, Women’s Tennis open 2023 campaign with home wins over Holmes
After weeks of preparation, playing against teammates, the Bear and Lady Bear Tennis teams finally got the opportunity to compete against individuals wearing different colored shirts Friday as they opened the 2023 schedule with wins against visiting Holmes.
The men won 9-0 while the women won 6-1.
For the women, only one Holmes Lady Bulldog made the trip to FitLife Sportsplex in McComb to compete. As a result, both women's doubles matches were forfeits won by Southwest. In addition, four of the five singles matches were also Lady Bear victories.
In the lone singles match that took place, Holmes won by a score of 6-0, 7-5.
On the men's side the teams of J.P. Johnson and Phillip Chandler and Jacob Fairley and Luke Sowell both won their matches 8-0. Also victorious was the team of Alex Velasquez and Jackson Stanford who took home an 8-2 victory. All six Bear men also won their singles matches as well.
The teams return to the court Friday as they host Co-Lin at 2 p.m.
