New Year’s resolutions are made with the best intentions, yet more than half of them will be broken by February. These resolutions don’t typically fail due to a lack of commitment, but instead, a lack of planning. If you want to keep your resolutions and live a healthier, happier life in 2023, follow the goal-setting tips below.
Write them down.
Write down each of your goals, and put them in a place you’ll see often. The regular reminder will keep your goals top-of-mind amid daily busyness.
Make a schedule.
Underneath your goals, write the tangible steps you need to take to reach them, and schedule a time to complete them. For example, if you want to lose weight, schedule an appointment with your physician to create your weight loss plan. After receiving your doctor’s input, schedule weekly workout sessions and make a meal plan.
Take it slow.
Plan to reach your goal in small, manageable steps, and avoid drastic modifications. If you take on too much change at once, you may become overwhelmed with your goal and give up altogether. For example, if you want to quit smoking, create a gradual smoking cessation plan with your physician, instead of quitting cold turkey on your own.
Share your goals.
Share your goals with friends, family and your healthcare specialists. These people will be able to provide you with the support and accountability you need to keep your resolutions.
