Cost of college went up for all students at Southwest Mississippi Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 2.5 percent for 2018-19 at Southwest Mississippi Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Mississippi residents paid $3,280 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $80 more than the $3,200 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 82.3 percent more than residents this year, or $5,980. Their price tag grew 1.4 percent from $5,900 in 2017-18.

About 92 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Mississippi residents. And about 8 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 95 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 545 students received grants or scholarships totaling $3.1 million.

Including all undergraduates (2,025), 1,459 students used grants or scholarships totaling $7.8 million.
