Greenwood Leflore Hospital issued the following announcement on Mar. 12.
Greenwood Leflore Hospital is taking measures to protect all patients, visitors and staff to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, otherwise known as Coronavirus, and it is requesting the help of people in the community.
According to the website of the Mississippi State Department of Health, COVID-19 is a “new respiratory virus that causes flu-like illness ranging from mild to severe, with symptoms of fever, coughing, fatigue and difficulty breathing.”
Before seeking care at the hospital, a person with these signs and symptoms should first contact the office of their physician or nurse practitioner. According to the website for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, this would include people who develop these symptoms “and have been in close contact with a person known to have COVID-19, or have recently traveled from an area with widespread or ongoing community spread of COVID-19.”
As a further temporary measure to properly protect those around us, the hospital is restricting the number of visitors to one person per patient at the hospital and in clinic waiting areas in the hospital network.
The hospital’s infection preventionists and safety officers recommend proper hand hygiene and keeping hands away from the face. Wash hands with warm soapy water and lather and scrub hands together for 20 seconds. When soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizers containing 60% alcohol. Many household disinfectants indicate they protect against Coronavirus.
