Southeastern Louisiana defeated Alcorn 13-0 in a nonconference softball game at North Oak Park in Hammond, Louisiana, on April 21.
The result marks a setback for the Braves as they prepare to return to conference play later this week. The Lions’ offense proved strong throughout the contest, led by Shelby Morris who went 3-for-3 with five runs batted in.
Morris, serving as Southeastern Louisiana’s leadoff hitter and second baseman, hit both a home run and a double. She completed a seven-run second inning with an inside-the-park three-run homer and later contributed a two-run double and sacrifice fly. Ka’Lyn Watson added her sixth home run of the season during the second inning, while Cydnee Schneider recorded two triples and two RBIs. Maria Detillier also had three hits including a double and drove in three runs. Shortstop Chloe Magee added a triple and an RBI.
Southeastern Louisiana (42-11) sent eleven batters to the plate during their decisive second inning against Braves starter Chiara Olison, who was removed after recording just one out. Hallie Burns earned her eighteenth win of the season by pitching a scoreless first inning before six other Lions pitchers combined to hold Alcorn to one hit over four innings.
Olison (7-18) took the loss for Alcorn after allowing seven runs on seven hits across just over two innings pitched. Olivia Miller and Alainah Felton allowed six additional runs in relief as the Braves struggled defensively. The only hit for Alcorn (13-31) came from Layla Watts with a fourth-inning double.
Alcorn will next face Southwestern Athletic Conference opponent UAPB Golden Lions at home on Thursday, April 23. The series was rescheduled due to weather concerns with a doubleheader set for Thursday afternoon.
