Prairie View A&M defeated Alcorn State 12-0 in five innings on March 13 at the Alcorn Softball Complex, opening their Southwestern Athletic Conference softball series with a decisive win.
The game saw Prairie View score in every inning, supported by a strong pitching performance from Kayla Adams. The Panthers improved to a 12-11 overall record and remained undefeated in conference play at 4-0. Alcorn State fell to 9-12 overall and 0-2 in the SWAC.
Prairie View started quickly, scoring three runs in the first inning off Alcorn starting pitcher Chiara Olison. Key plays included sacrifice flies from Mia Nunez and Morgan Smith, as well as an RBI double by Ashlee Elizarraras. Nunez continued her impact with a two-run triple in the second inning and finished the day with four RBIs, going 1-for-1 with three sacrifice flies. Smith contributed three RBIs and a stolen base.
Alcorn managed only two hits during the contest—singles by Olivia Miller and Yahnya Acevedo. Adams pitched a complete-game shutout for Prairie View, allowing just two hits while striking out two batters and walking one. Olison took the loss for Alcorn after giving up three runs (two earned) in one inning of work; Miller pitched the remaining four innings for the Braves.
The teams are scheduled to continue their series with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 14, beginning at 1 p.m.
