Alcorn State University’s softball team lost to Dallas Christian 16-6 on Sunday evening in the final game of the 2026 River City Classic. The tournament was hosted by Jackson State at JSU Softball Field in Jackson, Mississippi.
The Braves, now holding a 1-3 record for the season, fell behind early as Dallas Christian scored eight runs before Alcorn could respond. In the bottom of the second inning, Alcorn managed to score five runs, narrowing the deficit. Key plays included back-to-back errors by Dallas Christian that allowed Karmen Bernard, Olivia Miller, and Chiara Olison to score. Ka’Miya Dillon also contributed with a groundout that brought in Se’Marai Smith for Alcorn’s first run.
Olivia Miller, a junior from Kokomo, Mississippi, led Alcorn offensively with two hits in four at-bats and drove in two runs. Third baseman Se’Marai Smith went 1-for-1 and scored once.
Dallas Christian’s Kayla Looper earned the win after pitching six innings and allowing six runs on five hits with five walks and two strikeouts. Alcorn’s starting pitcher Chiara Olison took the loss after surrendering eight runs on eight hits over two innings.
Three players from Dallas Christian had three hits each during the game. Laila Robins finished with a 3-for-5 performance, collecting five RBIs and scoring twice.
Alcorn is scheduled to play next on Friday, February 13th in Covington, Georgia. The Braves will participate in a weekend series featuring five games, including four against teams from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
