What background was most represented in Amite County School District schools in 2021-22 school year?

Black students made up 81.5% of the 886 students enrolled in Amite County School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a three% increase over the previous school year.

Amite County Elementary School had the highest enrollment in the district with 459 students.

A snapshot of Amite County School District schools showed 81.5% of students were Black and 16.1% white.

Amite County School District roughly covers two schools within Amite County and has a main office in Liberty.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
